India Breaches 10 Lakh Mark With Highest Surge In 24 Hours; Karnataka Emerges As New Hotspot
With a surge of 34,956 cases, India has now surpassed the 10 lakh mark. Karnataka is now quickly emerging as a new hotspot.
New Delhi: India breached the 10-lakh mark and recorded one of its highest surges in coronavirus cases on Friday with 34,956 cases and 687 fatalities. According to data by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of cases at present stands at 10,03,832 cases out of which 342473 are active cases. So far, the total number of deaths caused due to Covid 19 is 25602. India’s recovery rate remains high and surpasses that of the number of active cases. Data shows that the total number of people recovered is 6,35,757.

Globally India is now the third-worst affected country after Brazil (2,012,151) and the United States (3,576,156). With the record numbers of Covid 19 cases, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has demanded that government take strong actions to control the spread of the virus. In a tweet, he said that 'at this speed by August 10 India will have 20,00,000 cases. The government has to take stringent action to curb the spread of the infection.'
Worst Affected Maharashtra is still leading as the worst affected state with a total of 2,84,281 cases out of which 1,14,947 are active cases. There has been a total of 1,11,94 fatalities. The number of those who have recovered remained high at 1,58,140. Recently, Neela Satyanarayan first woman election commissioner of Maharashtra succumbed to Covid 19. The 1972 batch IAS officer was admitted to the Seven Hills Hospital after she was diagnosed with Covid-19. Tamil Nadu still stands in the second position with a total of 156369 cases out of which 46717 are active cases. So far the state has recorded 2236 fatalities and 1,07,416 have recovered from the illness. Delhi stands at the third place with a total of 118645 cases. The state has 17,407 active cases with 3545 fatalities. So far 97693 have recovered from the infection in the state. Gujarat is at the fifth spot now with a total of 45,481 cases and 11289 active cases. The state has recorded 2089 deaths due to Covid 19. Data shows that 32103 have recovered in the state. Karnataka a new hotspot Karnataka has pushed Gujarat from the fourth spot after a surge in cases. The state has emerged as a new coronavirus hotspot with a total of 51,422 cases out of which 30,661 are active cases. The capital city Bengaluru has recorded maximum cases and the active containment zones in the city have increased to 5598. According to a report by Indian Express, almost 97 percent of patients who were on ventilators died at the Victoria Hospital attached to the Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI). The hospital was the first one in the city to be turned into a dedicated Covid 19 hospital.10,00,000 का आँकड़ा पार हो गया।
