Independence Day 2024: VP Jagdeep Dhankhar said, "it was a momentous day is a celebration of the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity that remain the bedrock of our vibrant democracy".
Several leaders extended greetings to the nation on the 78th Independence Day Thursday. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasised that the day is a celebration of the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity that remain the bedrock of the world's largest democracy.
"Heartiest greetings on 78th Independence Day! This momentous day is a celebration of the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity that remain the bedrock of our vibrant democracy, the largest in the world. Let us reflect on the collective journey we have traversed as a nation and work hard to realise the goal of 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047," Dhankhar posted on X.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid respect to the freedom fighters who helped attain Independence. The festival, he added, reminds Indians of the day when citizens made the “supreme sacrifice for the country”, saying I-Day was a moment to take inspiration from them.

Delhi minister Atishi said Independence Day serves to remind India about the hundreds of freedom fighters who faced lathicharge and jail, and sacrificed their lives for freedom. Those freedom fighters “could not have even imagined in their dreams that, one day, in Independent India, an elected chief minister would be framed in a false case and kept in jail for months”, she added.
