954 Police personnel have been awarded the Police Medals on the occasion of Independence Day 2023.
Independence Day 2023 Awards Full List: The Ministry of Home Affairs honoured 954 police personnel with medals on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day. The Police Medals announced on Monday, recognize the efforts of uniformed personnel across the country. Uttar Pradesh leads with the most recipients of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, while the Border Security Force dominates the same category for Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). Jammu and Kashmir police personnel have been awarded a maximum of 55 medals for Gallantry efforts.
Of the total medals, 1 recipient was awarded the President's Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG), 229 received the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), 82 were honoured with the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM), and 642 were presented with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM).
For police gallantry awards, 125 individuals from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, 71 from Jammu & Kashmir, and 11 from the North East region were recognized for their valour. Among them, 28 are CRPF personnel, 33 are from Maharashtra, 55 are from J&K Police, 24 are from Chhattisgarh, 22 are from Telangana, and 18 are from Andhra Pradesh, with the rest representing other States/UTs and CAPFs.

The President's Police Medal for Gallantry and the Police Medal for Gallantry commend acts of Conspicuous Gallantry, such as saving lives, preventing crime, or apprehending criminals. The President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service recognizes distinguished records in Police Service, while the Police Medal for Meritorious Service acknowledges valuable contributions marked by dedication and resourcefulness.
