'Hope Twitter Will No Longer Stifle Oppn's Voice': Rahul Gandhi Shares His Account's 'Manipulation' Graph

In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi congratulated Elon Musk and stated that Twitter would now take stronger measures to combat hate speech. He also shared a graph depicting his Twitter handle's "manipulation."

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi expressed hope on Friday that Twitter would now act more against hate speech, check facts more thoroughly, and not stifle the opposition's voice in India, shortly after billionaire Elon Musk took over the social media giant and fired four of its top executives.

"Congrats @elonmusk. I hope @Twitter will now act against hate speech, fact check more robustly, and will no longer stifle the opposition's voice in India due to government pressure," he tweeted.

Gandhi also posted a graph depicting the "manipulation" of his Twitter handle.

It emphasised how the new supporters of the Congress leader were suppressed between August 2021 and February 2022. Gandhi claimed to have sent 20 tweets to Twitter, despite the fact that the social media behemoth denied any wrongdoing.

Gandhi's Twitter account was momentarily suspended after he uploaded a photo of a rape victim and was sent with a letter from the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). He hadn't used his microblogging account in a long time after that. The Congress leader has frequently used his Twitter profile to criticise the Narendra Modi government.

The data also shows that Gandhi's Twitter account gained new followers beginning in January 2021 and continued to expand until February 2022, when it began to decline.

Musk closed the deal to buy Twitter and tweeted: "The bird is freed", soon after completing the whopping USD 44 billion takeover of the website and firing four of its top executives, including CEO Parag Agrawal and legal executive Vijaya Gadde.

Citing people with knowledge of the situation, a news report said Musk "has started cleaning the house at Twitter with the firings of at least four top executives".

Besides Agrawal and Gadde, Twitter's chief financial officer Ned Segal and general counsel Sean Edgett were also fired.

"At least one of the executives who was fired was escorted out of Twitter's office," the report said.
