Former PM HD Deve Gowda Takes Ride In Delhi Metro, Says 'It Was My Wish For Years'

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda experienced Delhi Metro for the first time, expressing his fulfillment in initiating the project in 1996. He praised the Metro's contribution to public transportation.

Former Prime Minister and Janta Dal (Secular) (JDS) veteran HD Deve Gowda took a ride in the Delhi Metro on Sunday saying it was his wish to travel in the Delhi Metro for years. He was accompanied by several senior officials of the Delhi Metro. The 91-year-old stalwart interacted with fellow passengers and officials on the train.

Sharing the metro journey, the former PM said, "It was my wish to travel by #DelhiMetro for years now. It was fulfilled today. I had given financial closure to the project in 1996 as PM amidst resistance inside my cabinet and outside. I am glad God gave me the courage to go ahead. It has helped people @OfficialDMRC</

Former PM 'Teen Murti Bhawan' Visits

The former PM also paid his visit to the Prime Ministers’ Museum in Teen Murti Bhawan earlier on Saturday. He complimented PM Modi for coming up with the idea for the museum, praising the establishment and stating that visiting PM Sangrahalaya was an overwhelming and humble experience.

"I visited the PMs Museum @PMSangrahalaya in New Delhi, today. It was an overwhelming and a humbling experience. I congratulate PM Shri @narendramodi for conceiving this history project, which recognises the contributions and diverse backgrounds of all our PMs," he wrote in a post on X.

The JDS leader is recognised for initiating the Delhi Metro Project as it was Deve Gowda's government which gave the green light for the metro rail transport in the nationa capital. The origins of this project trace back to the 1970s when the concept of establishing a railway-based Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in the four major cities was proposed.
