HC issues notice to Delhi Legislative Assembly over OP Sharma's plea challenging suspension
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Saturday issued a notice to the Delhi Legislative assembly on Bharatiya Janata Party MLA OP Sharma's plea, challenging the assembly resolution suspending him for two sessions.
The Delhi Assembly had passed the resolution against Sharma after an Ethics Committee probe recommended his expulsion for making derogatory remarks against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Alka Lamba during the winter session.
Sharma had claimed he had been "misquoted" and had meant to compliment Lamba for her work.
Opposing the plea filed by Sharma, the Delhi government told the bench that the BJP MLA had "shamelessly lied in his petition" and "misled" the court regarding Assembly proceedings which led to his suspension.
In his plea, Sharma said the committee's decision was "wrong and biased" because all its nine members were AAP members.
"My intention was not to hurt Lamba as she is like my sister but if she felt offended I express regret over it." Sharma said earlier.
