Greater Noida building collapse: Death toll mounts to 9; Yogi takes action

The police have arrested four people, including the landowner and have slapped culpable homicide not amounting to murder charge against them. 24 people have been named in the FIR in total.

Noida (UP): The death toll in Greater Noida building collapse has mounted to nine. Also, even after hours of rescue operation, several people are still feared trapped under the rubble of two adjacent buildings which collapsed on Tuesday evening. As per the officials, at least one of the buildings was unauthorised and poor material was used for its construction. Also, at least 12 labourers were in the under-construction building and all of them were feared trapped. Taking cognizance of the matter, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday ordered the suspension of two other officials, project manager V P Singh and assistant project manager Akhtar Abbas Zaidi. Adityanath also asked the Meerut divisional commissioner to conduct an inquiry and find out the extent of illegal construction in the area. Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in Greater Noida Development Authoriity, Vibha Chahal, has been removed from her post. A six-floor under-construction building crashed on a five-storey building next to it, bringing it down as well, in Shahberi village under Bisrakh police station last night.
