Govt Raises MSP For Rabi Crops, Tomar Says Some People Are Giving Misinformation About Closure

Minimum Support Price: The government increased MSP of wheat by Rs 40 to Rs 2,015 per quintal for the current crop year 2021-22. The mustard MSP has been increased by Rs 400 to Rs 5,050 per quintal.

Minimum Support Price: Farmers have been protesting since last year against these three agricultural laws in the country. Farmers' demand is to repeal these three agricultural laws. Meanwhile, the government has given a good surprise to farmers and increased MSP of rabi crop. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, "Some people are trying to spread misinformation that MSP (minimum support price) will be stopped. On the contrary, after the implementation of agricultural laws, the purchase of crops at MSP and the rate of MSP is increasing continuously.

Today government increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of wheat by Rs 40 to Rs 2,015 per quintal for the current crop year 2021-22. In addition, the MSP of mustard has been increased by Rs 400 to Rs 5,050 per quintal. The purpose of this initiative by the government is to increase the income of farmers along with cultivation of these crops. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Increase in MSP

Actually, MSP is the rate at which the government purchase grains from farmers. At present, the government fixes MSP for 23 crops grown in both Kharif and Rabi seasons. Sowing of rabi (winter) crops begins from October immediately after harvesting of Kharif (summer) crops. Wheat and mustard are the major rabi crops. CCEA has approved increase in MSP for six rabi crops for crop years 2021-22 (July-June) and 2022-23 marketing sessions. The support price of barley has been increased by Rs 35 and now it is 1,635 per quintal for the crop year 2021-22 from Rs 1,600 per quintal last year.

The MSP for gram in pulses has been increased by Rs 130 to Rs 5,230 per quintal, while MSP for masoor has been increased by Rs 400 to Rs 5,500 per quintal from the earlier rate Rs 5,100. If we talk about oilseeds, the government has increased the MSP of mustard for the crop year 2021-22 by Rs 400 to Rs 5,050 per quintal from Rs 4,650 per quintal in the previous year. Sunflower MSP has been increased from Rs 5,327 per quintal earlier to Rs 114 to Rs 5,441 per quintal.
