Goa Achieves 100% Literacy, CM Pramod Sawant Celebrates Milestone On 39th Statehood Day

Goa achieves 100% literacy on its 39th Statehood Day through collective efforts, NEP 2020 reforms, and inclusive education initiatives reaching every citizen aged 15+.

In a historic moment, Goa has officially declared itself a fully literate state, coinciding with the celebration of its 39th Statehood Day. The announcement marks a significant milestone in the state’s journey toward inclusive and quality education and positions Goa as a leading example for the rest of the country.

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant made the declaration during the Statehood Day celebrations, crediting the achievement to a collective push toward educational reform and innovation. “Our sustained collective efforts to strengthen the education sector with New Advancements, NEP 2020 have yielded the result,” he said.

At the heart of the initiative was the campaign motto "Jan-Jan Sakshar", which aimed to bring lifelong learning opportunities to every citizen aged 15 and above. The campaign mobilized an extensive network of volunteers, including retired teachers, NSS units, students from teacher training colleges, and grassroots education professionals.

The campaign began by identifying 2,981 non-literate individuals across Goa's twelve talukas. These learners received instruction at local schools, supported by Resource Adult Trainee Coordinators (RATCs) and a dedicated team of educators and student volunteers. The state also rolled out ULLAS primers in Konkani, Marathi, Hindi, and English, offering a multilingual approach to literacy. The materials covered not only basic reading and numeracy but also essential life skills and financial literacy.

Goa's achievement is more than just a statistical milestone. It represents a broader social transformation and empowerment, ensuring that no citizen is left behind in the march toward progress. The success of the campaign reflects the power of coordinated efforts, grassroots engagement, and a clear educational vision.
