Ghaziabad Seals Border With Delhi Once Again Over Fresh Spike In Covid-19 Cases

District administration has decided to once again close the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, the order read further adding that the sealing with same as it was during Lockdown 2.

New Delhi: The Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border at Ghaziabad will be sealed once again in the wake of sudden spike in Coronavirus cases over the past few days, the Ghaziabad administration said on Monday. As per reports, the sealing of borders will come in effect from May 25 midnight. Releasing a statement, the Ghaziabad administration said,  "In Ghaziabad district, there is an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the last few days. A large chunk of these cases are linked to those who travel between Delhi and Ghaziabad." Therefore on the instructions of Chief Medical Officer, the district administration has decided to once again close the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, the order read further adding that the sealing with same as it was during Lockdown 2. The order, however, said that those providing essential services, including media personnel, don't need passes and just their identification cards would be sufficient. Ambulances and vehicles for essential services will also be allowed. Even doctors, paramedical staff, police and bank employees will not need passes.  "Heavy vehicles, cargo vehicles, vehicles related to banking services and other essential services will be allowed to cross the border without any pass or questioning," the order read. Today's sealing order notably comes on the backdrop of 10 new Covid-19 cases in the district on Sunday taking total tally in Ghaziabad to 227, of which 33 are active cases. Earlier, the Delhi-Ghaziabad border was sealed last month after reports of six people who came from Delhi were found to be Covid-19 positive came. Soon after sealing Ghaziabad border, the administration also decided to seal Uttar Pradesh' other borders with Delhi, including neighbouring Noida. With over 600 cases reported in the last 24 hours, Delhi’s current Covid-19 count stands at 14,053. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh has over 6,000 cases of coronavirus. A record 6,977 new cases of Coronavirus and 154 more death due to the contagion were reported in the last 24 hours across the country, taking the total number of such cases on Monday to 1,38,845.
