‘Ganesh Idols With Small Eyes…’: PM Modi's Jibe At Chinese Products Flooding Indian Markets
PM Modi took a dig at China flooding the Indian markets with its goods, urging citizens to prioritise 'made in India' products over those manufactured and imported from abroad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged citizens to prioritise products made in India instead of being dependent on imported goods. He further took a veiled jibe at Chinese products flooding the markets in India, saying that "even Ganesh idols come from abroad".
PM Modi made these remarks while addressing the public in Gujarat's Gandhinagar. "We must encourage village traders to pledge that no matter how much profit they make, they will not sell foreign goods," he said, appealing to the nation to use 'Made in India' products.
He further went on to cite examples of imported products flooding Indian markets, expressing disappointment over how several products used especially during festivals like Holi, Diwali, and Ganesh Puja are also foreign-made. "Unfortunately, even Ganesh idols come from abroad, small-eyed Ganesh idols whose eyes don't even open properly. Even Holi colours are foreign-made.”
Urging people to introspect on their daily use of imported products, PM Modi said: "As a citizen, I have a task for you- go home and make a list of how many foreign products you use in 24 hours. You don't even realise but even hairpin, comb used are foreign-made...we don't even know about it."
He further asked people to collectively take the responsibility of shifting to 'Made in India'. “If we want to save India, to make India, to make India grow, then Operation Sindoor is not just the responsibility of armed forces, it’s the responsibility of 140 crore citizens," PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister’s comments follow rising concerns about China flooding the Indian market with cheap goods. Products like decorative lights, firecrackers, toys, and religious idols, which are frequently imported at low cost from China, have increasingly dominated festival sales in recent years, posing a challenge to local artisans and manufacturers.
