New Delhi: Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, Nitin Gadkari talked about the ways to revive the economy after the lockdown at the ‘e- Shikhar Sammelan’ a conclave organized by ABP News.
The lockdown has severely impacted transport which remained suspended during the duration of the lockdown and the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. As India entered its third phase of the lockdown or lockdown 3.0 many relaxations have been introduced and there is a focus on reviving the economy. Transportation of goods has also resumed and according to Gadkari 65-70 percent traffic is back on the road. He feels that the best way forward is by restarting industries and opening channels of livelihood.
“Once industries restart and livelihood mediums have opened again, then migration will also be under control as workers will be less anxious. We have also given district collectors the authority to develop guidelines for industries, especially on the coronavirus precautions and protocols to be followed. We are here to support industries as they begin work again.”
Gadkari also feels that focusing on infrastructure projects at this time will help to bring liquidity in the market.
“In the next two years, we plan to work on bringing more foreign investments in infrastructure projects. This will increase liquidity in the market and also help to raise the spending capacity of people," he said.

He also reiterated that there is a positive side of the pandemic and calls it a ‘blessing in disguise’ especially as industries leave China looking for new avenues. “We are trying and planning to meet ambassadors from different countries via video conferencing and assure them that India is the destination to set up companies. This is also a way to increase investments in the country.”
Regarding questions about political support for government measures, Gadkari says that the current situation necessitates that we rise above political affiliation.
“We have to rise above politics, and we have to work together. In fact, everyone is together, and, we do not have politics in between us. I am sure through proper coordination and cooperation we will be able to revive the economy.”
