'BJP Is Tribal Communities' Choice': PM Modi Cites Gujarat Polls Win In Agartala

PM Modi visited poll-bound Tripura and Meghalaya on Sunday and inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of various projects worth more than Rs 6,800 crore.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the focus of the double-engine government is boosting physical, digital, and social infrastructure, as he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of various projects worth Rs 4350 crore in Agartala on Sunday.

PM Modi also launched the 'Grih Pravesh' programme for beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Rural. These houses, developed at a cost of over Rs 3400 crore, will cover over two lakh beneficiaries.

Addressing the people, PM Modi said, “I congratulate the people of Tripura for making Swachhta a mass movement. Due to this Tripura has emerged as the cleanest state in the category of smallest states. I congratulate Tripura on getting a new dental college today.”

“In the last eight years, many National highways have been constructed in the North East sector. Many rural areas are also connected by roads... Our double engine government's focus is on improving physical, digital as well social infrastructure,” he said.

Talking about the tribal communities, PM Modi said that the government is dedicated towards the improvement of lives of the Janjatiya communities.

"The budget which used to be Rs 21,000 crore is now Rs 88,000 crore. It's BJP government which has started the initiative of celebrating 'Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas' on 15th November every year," he said, adding, "The first choice of the tribal community is BJP. In the recent Gujarat elections, BJP won 24 of the 27 seats reserved for tribal communities. We have given importance to issues related to the tribal community."

Among the key initiatives, the prime minister inaugurated a project for widening of the Agartala bypass (Khayerpur-Amtali) NH-08, which will help ease traffic congestion in Agartala city, he also laid the foundation stones for 32 roads of more than 230 km in length under the PMGSY III (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) and for improvement of 112 roads covering a distance of over 540 km.

The State Institute of Hotel Management at Anandnagar and Agartala Government Dental College were also inaugurated by PM Modi.

It is to be noted that PM Modi visited poll-bound Tripura and Meghalaya on Sunday and inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of various projects worth more than Rs 6,800 crore.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had said in a statement that the projects encompass a wide array of sectors, including housing, road, agriculture, telecom, IT, tourism and hospitality.
