Five Indian Students Killed In Road Accident In Canada, Two Others Hospitalised
Five Indian students died on the spot, while two others were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.
New Delhi: Five Indian students were killed in a road accident near Toronto, Canada on Saturday morning. The incident happened when the auto in which they were travelling collided with a tractor-trailer on the Ontario highway.
Altogether, there were seven people travelling in the van when the incident took place. Five Indians died on the spot, while two others were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.
The driver of the tractor-trailer escaped unhurt.
Indian High Commissioner to Canada Ajay Bisaria confirmed the news Monday and expressed his condolences to the families of the students. He also said that the Indian embassy in Canada is providing all necessary help to relatives and friends of deceased.
Taking to Twitter Bisaria wrote, "5 Indian students passed away in an auto accident near Toronto on Saturday, March 13. Two others in hospital. Team of Consulate General of India in Toronto in touch with friends of the victims for assistance."

The students who died in the accident were identified by the Quinte West Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as Harpreet Singh 24, Jaspinder Singh 21, Karanpal Singh 22, Mohit Chouhan 23, and Pawan Kumar 23, reported News18 website.
Meanwhile, investigation into the incident is underway by the local police to determine the exact cause of the crash.
