Fire Breaks Out In 7-Storey Residential Building In Mumbai, No Casualty Reported

The blaze erupted in the building located on Dhanji Street near the famous Mumbadevi temple around 1:30 am on Friday.

A major fire broke out in a seven-storey residential building in Kalbadevi area of south Mumbai in the wee hours of Friday. However, there have been no reports of any casualties, according to a PTI report. The blaze erupted in the building located on Dhanji Street near the famous Mumbadevi temple around 1:30 am. There were around 50-60 people trapped inside the building who were later rescued by the fire fighters. The fire engulfed five floors starting from the ground floor. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

"Fifty to sixty people were stuck inside the complex at that time, but they were safely rescued by the fire brigade personnel using the staircase of an adjoining building," a civic official was reported as saying by PTI.

At least 12 fire engines were deployed at the spot to douse the fire from all sides and carry out rescue efforts.

A 40-year-old man sustained a minor burn injury and a medical team of the 108 emergency ambulance service treated him on the spot, he added.

"The fire has been covered from all the sides," the civic official told PTI at the time, adding that there was no report of any casualty so far.

However, there was property damage, some portion of the first and the second floor ceiling along with a part of the staircase fell off, because of which the firefighting operation had to be carried out from the outside of the building.

As some portion of the first and the second floor ceiling along with a part of the staircase has fallen off, the firefighting operation is being carried out from outside the building "as a precautionary measure,” the official told PTI.

This comes just days after a fire broke out in a high rise near Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital. The fire started out in two flats on the 12th floor of the building. Following this, two people were rescued and the fire was put out quickly.
