'Film Dishoom is hurting religious sentiments of Sikhs’, Know how

New Delhi: Now that film ‘Udta Punjab’ has finally spread its wings, the future of upcoming movie Dishoom, which is produced by Sajid Nadiawala and Sunil A Lulla seems to be landing in soup. The film’s song ‘ishq ka marz’ has allegedly hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community. The General Secretary of Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Manjinder Singh Sirsa has written a letter to Chairperson Of the Central Board of Film certification Pehlaj Nihalani seeking the removal of the video of the song which stars Jacqueline Fernandes. In his letter, Sirsa claimed “The song depicts a semi-clad actor, Jacqueline Fernandes, dancing with a Kirpan (one of the 5 compulsory ‘kakaars’ worn by practising Sikhs), thereby mocked the sacredness of the religious ‘Kirpan’. Sirsa added that a movie must not hurt any religious sentiments in the name of freedom of expression. “I have received complaints in this regard from several Sikh bodies in regards to completely banning the song”. Sirsa has also sought an apology from the director Rohit Dhawan, and has warned to take the matter in court if the ‘needful’ isn’t done. The movie is set to release on July 29, 2016 and also casts John Abraham, Varun Dhawan and Akshaye Khanna.
