New Delhi: The ongoing farmers' protest against the three contentious farm laws passed by the Centre has now entered its sixteenth straight day and Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday said that the government wanted to liberate the farmers from the shackles of the mandi system which will help them to sell their produce to anyone, anywhere, and at any price. Farmers staged a nationwide Bharat Bandh on December 8. However, the farmers' unions rejected the proposal and said they would intensify their agitation until the government accepts their demand for a complete repeal of the three laws.

Government sent a proposal with certain amendments which was rejected by the farmers' unions who were however adamant on the repeal of the laws and rejected the proposal.
After being accused of sending emails to Sikhs about PM Modi's welfare scheme in the backdrop of farmers' protest, the IRCTC has denied the charges and said it was part of the usual communication plan in the public interest.
