Farmers' Protest: Farmers Vow To Block Delhi-Jaipur Highway Today, Hunger Strike On Dec 14 |Key Points

Farmers' Protests: Thousands of farmers have been protesting at various border points of Delhi for over two weeks, demanding the repeal of the new farm laws. agitation despite a fresh message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the new legislation. Protesters will also hold a nationwide demonstration at all district offices on Monday and hold a hunger strike from 8 am to 5 pm, they said. On Saturday, farmers overpowered various toll plazas along the Delhi Punjab and Delhi-Haryana border.  Thousands of policemen were stationed near Delhi's borders to stop them from blocking major highways and taking over more roads into the capital.

• • Addressing press and farmers at the Singhu border on Saturday, Kamal Preet Singh Pannu of the Sanyukta Kisan Andolan was quoted by ANI as saying, "On 14 December, all farmer leaders will sit on a fast sharing the same stage at the Singhu border. We want the government to take back the three farm bills, we're not in favour of amendments. Centre wants to thwart our movement but we'll continue it peacefully."
  • More than 1,000 policemen were posted on Gurgaon's border with Delhi and 3,500 policemen in Faridabad to block the movement of protesters after they said they will occupy the Delhi-Jaipur highway. Police in large numbers also stopped groups of hundreds of farmers from blocking the main highway from Delhi to Agra.
  • "Thousands of farmers will begin a tractor march on Sunday at 11 am from Shahjahanpur in Rajasthan and will block Jaipur-Delhi main road. After our nationwide call, all toll plazas of Haryana were made free on Saturday," said Kamal Preet Singh Pannu of the Sanyukta Kisan Andolan.

  • The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee today condemned and disassociated itself from a statement made to the media by VM Singh, and said it firmly stood with the demands of the farmer organisations agitating in unison for the repeal of 3 anti-farmer acts and legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price. "These are non-negotiable."
  • A delegation of 29 farmers from Haryana met Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Saturday to extend their support to the new legislations and threatened to stage a protest if those are repealed. The delegation, led by Bharatiya Kisan Union's (Mann) Haryana state leader Guni Prakash, submitted a "letter of support" to Tomar on the farm laws passed by Parliament in September and demanded the government to continue with these legislations.
  • On Friday, protesters dismissed claims that their agitation were influenced by "ultra-left". "We reject this claim of the government. No one can influence us. This is the government's propaganda to defame us. All the decisions are taken by the Samyukt Kisan Union," Raminder Singh Patiyal, president of one of the 32 demonstrating groups Kirti Kisan Sangathan, said.
