EXCLUSIVE | Time Has Come To Implement Uniform Civil Code In Entire Country, Says Rajnath Singh

With just a few days left for Gujarat Assembly elections, the Defence Minister said the momentum for 2024 Lok Sabha polls is already set and BJP will win Gujarat based on the performance of the party.

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in an exclusive interview with ABP News on Wednesday, spoke about Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s recent ‘Ravan’ jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the gruesome Shradhha Walkar murder case.

Speaking about UCC, the Defence Minister said time has come for the entire country to implement it and commended the states that are already mulling its implementation.

On the recent remark by Kharge, that kicked up a political storm, Singh said, “It is very wrong. There should be dignity in politics. Kharge is the President of Congress, it does not suit him. The Prime Minister is not a person but an institution. Such statements do not suit the leaders of the Congress party. It seems the party has become more frustrated.”

“Congress leaders have targeted the Prime Minister in the past as well. This is their habit,” he added.

Notably, in a poll campaign in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, Kharge compared PM Modi with Ravan.

“In all these campaigns, he (Modi) only talks about himself. 'Don't look at anyone else, just look at Modi and vote'... how many times do we have to see your face? How many forms do you have? Do you have 100 heads like Ravan?” Kharge said.

Referring to BJP MP Manoj Tiwari’s recent statement on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Singh said, “Whosoever it may be, there should be decorum in words and statements in politics.”

"I am concerned about the security of Arvind Kejriwal because people and AAP volunteers are angry over sustained corruption, selling of tickets (for the MCD polls), friendship with rapist and massage in jail incidents. Their MLAs too have been thrashed. It should not happen with the chief minister of Delhi....," the North East Delhi MP had said in a tweet.

With just a few days left for the Gujarat Assembly elections, the Defence Minister said the momentum for 2024 Lok Sabha polls is already set and BJP will win Gujarat based on the performance of the party.

The Union Minister also spoke on the need to implement anti-radicalisation cells in all the states of the country.

Notably, BJP, in its poll manifesto, has promised the creation of anti-radicalisation cell and Uniform Civil Code if voted to power.

Speaking on the Shraddha Walkar murder case, where her live-in partner Aftab Poonawala allegedly chopped her body and dispersed them across the national capital over months, Rajnath Singh said it is a heinous murder and stringent action should be taken against the culprit.
