Rahul, Mamata, Ram Nath Kovind & Others Wish President-Elect Murmu After Her Spectacular Win Over Yashwant Sinha

After the results of the Presidential elections were announced late Thursday evening, several leaders took to the social media to congratulate the President-Elect.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA's candidate Droupadi Murmu was elected as the 15th President of India on Thursday. She defeated the joint Opposition candidate, Yashwant Sinha. After the results of the Presidential elections were announced late Thursday evening, several leaders took to the social media to congratulate the President-Elect.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, congratulated her and wrote, “Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji's life, her early struggles, her rich service and her exemplary success motivates each and every Indian. She has emerged as a ray of hope for our citizens, especially the poor, marginalised and the downtrodden.”

“Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji has been an outstanding MLA and Minister. She had an excellent tenure as Jharkhand Governor. I am certain she will be an outstanding President who will lead from the front and strengthen India's development journey,” he added.

“I would like to thank all those MPs and MLAs across party lines who have supported the candidature of Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji. Her record victory augurs well for our democracy,” PM Modi further wrote.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, extending his greetings to the newly elected President, tweeted, ”Coming from a very common tribal family, NDA candidate Smt. Draupadi Murmu ji's election as the President of India is a moment of great pride for the whole country, I congratulate her. This victory is a milestone in the direction of realizing the empowerment of tribal society.”

“Smt Draupadi Murmu ji has reached this highest position of the country today after fighting against the odd circumstances, it shows the immense power of our democracy. Even after so many struggles, the selfless spirit with which she devoted herself in the service of the country and society is inspiring for all,” Shah added.

Outgoing President of India, Ram Nath Kovind also congratulated Droupadi Murmu after the election.

BJP national president JP Nadda, congratulated Murmu and wrote, “Hearty congratulations to Mrs. Draupadi Murmu ji on being elected as the 15th President of the country. Reaching the presidency of a woman from a tribal society is a golden moment for the country, I am sure that the nation will get immense benefits from your experience and efficiency in administrative and social work.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wrote, “Congratulations to Smt Draupadi Murmu ji for registering an effective victory in the Presidential election. She has been active for public welfare in villages, poor, underprivileged as well as in slums. Today she has risen from among them to the highest constitutional position. This is a proof of the strength of Indian democracy.”

Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar wrote, “Today is a remarkable day for Indian democracy. Smt Droupadi Murmu’s election as the 15th President is a statement of an authentic and inclusive India. It will serve as an inspiration to millions of our citizens. New India is not just an aspiration; it is becoming a reality.”

Apart from them, several other leaders including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, chief ministers of other states also took to the social media to heartily congratulate Droupadi Murmu.
