DRDO Successfully Conducts Maiden Launch Of Indigenous Surface-To-Surface Missile ‘Pralay’

New Delhi: India on Wednesday successfully test-fired short-range, surface-to-surface guided ballistic missile 'Pralay' off the Odisha coast here, DRDO sources said.

"Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a maiden flight test of indigenously developed surface-to-surface missile ‘Pralay’, from Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on December 22, 2021", a press release said.

The solid-fuel, battlefield missile developed by the Defence Research Development Organisation is based on Prithvi Defence Vehicle from the Indian ballistic missile programme.

"The Missile is powered with the solid propellant rocket motor and many new technologies. The missile has a range of 150-500 kilometres and can be launched from a mobile launcher. The missile guidance system includes state-of-the-art navigation system and integrated avionics", the press release said.

A battery of tracking instruments monitored its trajectory along the coastline, they said. 'Pralay' is a 350-500 km short-range, surface-to-surface missile with a payload capacity of 500-1,000 kg.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Twitter, "Congratulations to the DRDO and associated teams for the maiden development flight trial. My compliments to them for the fast-track development and successful launch of the modern Surface-to-Surface Quasi Ballistic missile. It is a significant milestone achieved today.

Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO, Dr G Satheesh Reddy appreciated the team and said that this is a new generation surface-to-surface missile equipped with modern technologies and induction of this weapon system will give the necessary impetus to the Armed Forces.
