“He has been granted one-month parole and he came out of the prison on Friday," a senior police official from Rohtak jail said.

New Delhi: A top official claimed on Friday that jailed Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been given a month's parole. Singh was imprisoned in Haryana's Rohtak after being convicted in rape crimes in 2017, news agency PTI reported.

“He has been granted one-month parole and he came out of the prison on Friday," a senior police official from Rohtak jail informed PTI.

Earlier this month, the Dera chief was granted a three-week leave of absence.

The sect's leader is serving a 20-year prison sentence for raping two female devotees at his ashram in Sirsa, where the dera is based. In August 2017, he was found guilty by a special CBI court in Panchkula.

The sect's leader was imprisoned at Rohtak's Sunaria Prison.

According to sources, the Dera president was planning to visit the Dera Sacha Sauda Ashram in Barnawa, Uttar Pradesh's Bhagpat district.

He was last year also convicted along with four others for hatching a conspiracy to kill Ranjit Singh, a Dera manager, in 2002.

In 2019, the Dera chief and three others were also convicted for the murder of a journalist over 16 years ago.

He had been held guilty for hatching a criminal conspiracy with his co-accused for these killings. He had been convicted under section 120-B read with section 302 of IPC.
