Dengue Cases In Delhi Break 5-Year Record, 5600 Cases Recorded In November

According to MCD data, more than 1,800 of these dengue cases have been registered in the last week.

New Delhi: Although a drop in Covid cases brought some respite to the people of Delhi, the rising cases of Dengue have become a cause of concern for the national capital. Delhi has registered 7,128 dengue cases so far this year, out of which more than 5,600 cases have been reported in November alone.

According to a report released by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday, till November 15, the city had recorded 5,277 dengue cases, making it the highest number of cases of the vector-borne disease recorded in Delhi in a year since 2015.

More than 1,800 dengue cases in one week

According to MCD data, more than 1,800 of these dengue cases have been registered in the last week. However, no death has been reported so far. The highest number of cases have been reported in areas like Civil Lines and Keshav Puram in North Delhi. South-West Delhi and Najafgarh also recorded a large number of cases. Meanwhile, more than 600 dengue-positive people could not be traced after testing. Out of 600, 219 of them were not from Delhi.

1,072 cases recorded in 2020

According to data shared by the MCDs, 2.6 cumulative visits have been made to homes by domestic breeding checkers to check for the presence of mosquito breeding. During this period, breeding was found in 1.85 lakh houses and legal notices were issued to 1.4 lakh people.

According to the report, Delhi reported 4,431 dengue cases in 2016, 4,726 cases in 2017, 2,798 in 2018, 2,036 in 2019, and 1072 in 2020. The situation in the city was alarming in 2015 when the number of dengue cases reported crossed 10,600.

October and November report the maximum number of dengue cases throughout the year. With a relative drop in temperature after the  monsoons, the city provides conducive weather for mosquitoes to breed in water. In December, usually there is a decline in dengue cases.
