Delhi Speaker Disqualifies Rebel AAP MLA Kapil Mishra

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel has disqualified rebel AAP MLA Kapil Mishra under the anti-defection law, sources said on Friday. They said that Mishra has been disqualified under the 10th Schedule to the Constitution, which is commonly referred to as the 'Anti-Defection Law'. An order to disqualify the Karawal Nagar MLA has been issued by the speaker, they said. The Karawal Nagar legislator had a bitter fallout with Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal who removed him from his cabinet in May 2017. He was suspended from the AAP after his rebellion. Earlier, Mishra along with his aide had launched a campaign "Mera PM, Mera Abhiman"(my PM, my pride) in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He had also released a mobile number for interested persons to join the campaign. Mishra was seen cosying up with the BJP leaders and joining them at events and programmes. Last month, the AAP asked two of its rebel MLAs, Anil Bajpai and Devinder Sehrawat, to make their stand clear by either accepting that they have left the party and face disqualification from the Assembly or say that the BJP was lying that they never joined the saffron party. The offer came after the AAP approached the Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel seeking disqualification of the two MLAs who joined the BJP last month ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
