Now Your Debit Or Credit Card Can Act As Delhi Metro Smartcard; Know How

Passengers of the Delhi Metro will soon be able to use their credit or debit cards to pay at the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates.

New Delhi: Delhi Metro passengers will soon be able to use credit or debit cards for travelling in the metro. According to media reports, passengers will have access to the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) and will be able to use their debit or credit cards to pay the fare. According to reports, the Delhi Metro has already started making changes by upgrading the current database and software for the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system on the existing networks. With the modifications that the metro is planning to make in the AFC gates, the debit or credit card will act as a smart card. Passengers can use their card at the Automatic Fare Collection(AFC) gate while exiting the station and the fare will get deducted automatically. To use this facility one will have to issue a RuPay credit or debit card from the bank.  In the face of Covid 19, the new facility will also promote contactless fare collection. These cards have a special magnetic strip which will be read at the AFC gate. Reports say, that the trail of this new mode of payment will be done at the  Aiport Express Line and Dwarka Sector 21. A report by Times of India also says that, penalty amount which is deducted if a passenger travels beyond the specified destination or if they exceed their time at the station will also be cut from the card automatically. Although this facility is available in cities such as Kochi and Nagpur, only cards of a particular bank can be used. As per the issued notice, the Unlock-3 which came into effect from August 1 the Delhi Metro remains shut.
