'Delhi Lockdown Extended For Another Week, Unlock 1 Likely From May 31st': CM Kejriwal

Delhi CM said that the lockdown restrictions will continue till 5am of 31st May.

Delhi Covid Update: Delhi Chief Minister held a press conference today and said that the cases in the city are under control compared to what the national capital was witnessing in April but the capital is still registering more than 1000 cases so Delhi lockdown will be extended till 31st May 5 am.

Kejriwal said that Delhi's positivity rate has dipped below 2.5% this week which is great news for the people. 1,600 new COVID 19 cases reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours.

The Delhi CM also cited that the capital battled the crisis of oxygen and is in a stable position right now, similarly the city is facing an acute shortage of vaccines which will be resolved soon.

Delhi CM also paid homage to the medical workers and doctors who are relentlessly working to serve the patients and some even sacrificed their lives. Kejriwal said that families of doctors will be provided Rs 1 crore as ex gratia.

Kejriwal further said that if the city continues to witness a similar rate of decline in cases then the govt will lift some restrictions from 31st May onwards starting the process of Unlock 1. The restrictions will be removed in a phased manner.

The Delhi Chief Minister said that the main focus of the government right now is to vaccinate the maximum number of people as it is the only way to limit the third wave of Covid 19 which is more likely to affect children.

"There is a possibility that the third wave won't hit if everyone is vaccinated. We are planning to vaccinate everyone as soon as possible. I'm in talks with domestic & foreign companies regarding vaccines. We're ready to spend from our budget": Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal

Lockdown was imposed on April 19 in the national capital after night and weekend curfews which was imposed to check sharply rising numbers of COVID cases and fatalities under the second wave. The positive cases in the city peaked at over 28,000 while the positivity rate of more than 36 per cent was recorded during this period
