Liquor Policy Case: Supreme Court To Hear Manish Sisodia's Bail Plea On July 14

The Supreme Court will hear Manish Sisodia's bail petition in the Delhi Excise Policy Scam case on July 14. Read on to know more details.

The Supreme Court will hear the bail petition of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on July 14, PTI reported. The matter was mentioned before the Supreme Court on Monday by senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi citing the ill health of Sisodia's wife Seema Sisodia. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader moved the Supreme Court on Thursday to challenge the Delhi High Court order that denied him bail in both CBI and ED cases pertaining to the new Excise Policy of the Delhi Government, reported ANI.

He was first arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on February 26 for his alleged role in the scam and has been in custody since then. The high court has already denied him bail in the CBI case on May 30.

He was again arrested on March 9 in the case lodged by Enforcement Directorate and is presently in judicial custody.

On Thursday, a Delhi court ordered to physically produce former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy case.

The court’s order came after the Delhi Police moved an application seeking the production of the Aam Aadmi Party leader through video conferencing stating security concerns.

Appearing for Sisodia, his counsel said that he has a right to be produced physically for an effective hearing, and the rights of the accused to be produced in the court should not be curtailed.

Following the arguments, the court decided that Sisodia be produced physically on July 31.

On July 3, Sisodia’s bail plea was rejected by the Delhi High Court. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma pronounced the order on Sisodia’s bail plea and also dismissed the bail petitions of Vijay Nair, ex-communication in charge of Aam Aadmi Party, Abhishek Boinpally (Hyderabad Based Businessman), Binoy Babu Binoy, (manager with a liquor company M/S Pernod Ricard) in connection with the case.

He was first arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on February 26 for his alleged role in the scam and has been in custody since then. The high court has already denied him bail in the CBI case on May 30.
