Delhi Covid Update: As Positivity Rate Jumps, CM Kejriwal Urges Not To Panic

Delhi reported a positivity rate of 2.70 per cent on Monday, the highest in the last two months.

New Delhi: Amid marginal rise in Covid cases in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday assured the people of the city that his government is keeping a close watch on the situation and there is no need to panic at the moment, reported news agency PTI.

He also said that all necessary steps will be taken if the situation deteriorates. The cause of concern for Delhiites has been the marginal increase in Covid cases. Delhi reported a positivity rate of 2.70 per cent on Monday, the highest in the last two months.

While speaking to reporters the Delhi CM said, "We are keeping a close watch on the situation. There's no major reason to panic right now. We will take all necessary steps according to the situation."

Earlier on Monday, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain also said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is monitoring the situation carefully and there was no reason to panic. The assurance has come despite the positivity rate jumping from 0.5 per cent on April 4 to 2.70 percent.

“The daily cases in Delhi are being reported in the range of 100-200. We are keeping an eye on hospital admissions and they are going down. Focus shouldn’t be on positivity rate much as of now,” Jain said, as reported by PTI.

Meanwhile, the country registered 946 recoveries on Monday and 19 people succumbed to the deadly disease.  With recoveries outnumbering the new infections the active cases dipped to 10,889, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The death toll climbed to 5,21,710 with 19 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.
