Delhi Court Begins Hearing On Cancellation Report Of Police In POCSO Case Against Brij Bhushan

A Delhi court is hearing the cancellation report filed by city police in the POCSO case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Delhi's Patiala House Court has commenced hearing on the cancellation report filed by Delhi Police in the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. This case was registered on the complaint of a minor wrestler against the BJP MP. Notably, the Delhi Police had filed a cancellation report in the POCSO case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. After the report was filed, Olympian Sakshi Malik claimed that the minor complainant's family was under "a lot of pressure".

The remark came after reports of the minor wrestler withdrawing the allegations of sexual harassment and retracting her statement surfaced. The minor had spoken of sexual harassment in her first statement given before the magistrate. In the second statement, however, the minor reportedly withdrew the allegation saying, "I was not selected, I had worked very hard. I was in depression, so I had filed a case of sexual harassment in anger."

Speaking on the Delhi police recommendation for dropping POCSO charges against the BJP MP, Sakshi Malik said: "Police has removed the POCSO charge. But according to what we have heard, the Supreme Court decides which statement it will accept. We have been saying that her (minor wrestler's) father, her entire family are under a lot of pressure. He said in an interview that he was under pressure. Now, it is understood that they have broken down due to it."

Meanwhile, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday fixed July 7 for consideration on taking cognisance of the chargesheet filed against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, in the alleged sexual harassment case. According to PTI, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal, who was scheduled to pass the order on Saturday, noted the submission of the city police that its probe is still in progress and a supplementary charge sheet is likely to be filed.

"However, since FSL report and report on CDR (call detail record) is awaited it is likely to take time. Put up for consideration for July 7," the judge said.
