Delhi Govt Launches 'India's First Virtual School', Admissions Open For Class 9 To 12

The classes will be online and recorded lectures will also be uploaded online, the Delhi CM said during a media briefing.

New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal launched "India's first virtual school" on Wednesday calling it Delhi Model Virtual School (DMVS). Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kejriwal said that students from across the nation will be eligible for admission to this virtual school. The application process for the school -- which is for classes 9 to 12 -- opened today, August 31, after Delhi CM made the announcement.

The virtual school will be affiliated with the Delhi Board of School Education Board and any student aged between 13 and 18 years, who has qualified for class 8 from any recognised school, can apply for admission.

During the address, Kejriwal said DMVS facility will also be used for preparing students for competitive exams like JEE, NEET and CUET.

“The admission to the schooling platform will be open for students across India and they will also be prepared by experts for entrance exams like NEET, CUET and JEE along with skill-based training,” Kejriwal said during the online media briefing.

He further said that this virtual school will prove to be a milestone in the education sector.

“There are many children who cannot go to school since there are issues like the school being far away or other obstacles. Many parents do not get their daughters educated since they don't want to send them out. We are starting this virtual school to ensure they get educated. This school is inspired by virtual classes that had been necessitated due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

The classes will be online and recorded lectures will also be uploaded online, the Delhi CM added. To access the platform, students will be provided with an ID and password using which they can log in and attend classes. The platform will also provide facilities like a digital library, recorded lectures, etc.

Kejriwal revealed that the platform has been developed by Google and School Net India.

Manish Sisodia tweeted in Hindi, "With the Government's Delhi Model Virtual School, children will now be able to access Delhi Government's world-class education from anywhere and anytime in the country, through online portals and live classes. Will be able to prepare for exams like JEE-NEET. Lack of time and distance will not become a hindrance for a good education".
