Rajnath Singh Briefs PM Modi As Talks Between Major Generals Of India, China Remain 'Inconclusive'

This comes at the backdrop of a 'violent faceoff' that left 20 Indian soldiers dead and several other injured in the Galwan Valley.

New Delhi: The talks between the Major Generals of India and China in Galwan Valley in Ladakh, the site of a violent face-off between the two armies, ended today. Sources have however said that talks have remained inconclusive as no immediate disengagement or change in ground has taken place. Meanwhile, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met PM Narendra Modi to brief him about the ongoing tensions with China at the LAC. As per the media reports, Rajnath told PM Modi that the talks between the Major Generals of India and China are 'Inconclusive'. The developments comes at the backdrop of a 'violent face-off' that left 20 Indian soldiers dead and several other injured in the Galwan Valley. Mourning the death of the brave hearts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier today chaired a second round of meeting with Chief Ministers of various states and union territories and addressed the nation saying that India always prioritizes peace, but bears strength of giving a befitting reply if instigated. Rajnath Singh held a high-level meeting with Chief of Defence Staff and three service chiefs following which all the frontline bases of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force along the nearly 3,500 km de-facto border were put on high alert in view of the clash, military sources close to news agency PTI said. Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar today spoke to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi over the phone and discussed the situation in Eastern Ladakh. During his telephonic conversation, Jaishankar lodged a strong demarche and conveyed a message to China saying, "What happened in Galwan was premeditated and planned action by China which was responsible for the sequence of events." He warned the rival saying that "the need of the hour was for the Chinese side to reassess its actions and take corrective steps."
