India Reports 35,662 New Covid-19 Cases, Sets New Record By Administering 2.5 Crore Vaccines In Single Day
India on Friday administered a record number of over 2.50 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses.
New Delhi: India has reported 35,662 new Covid-19 cases, and 281 deaths. So, the current active cases number stands at 3,40,639 & recoveries at 3,26,32,222.
According to ANI, India administered the highest-ever single-day vaccinations with 2.5 crore doses given in the last 24 hours.
Kerala recorded 23,260 COVID cases and 131 deaths on Friday.
India on Friday administered a record number of over 2.50 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 71st birthday, which Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya described as a golden chapter in world history.
The numbers went up steadily through the day with the cumulative number of doses administered in the country crossing 79.33 crore at midnight (12 am), according to data on the Co-WIN portal.
Many including NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said that India has created a world record in administering daily COVID-19 vaccine doses.
The COVID-19 vaccination started on March 1, 2021, for people aged over 60 and those aged 45 and above with specified co-morbid conditions. The country then launched vaccination for all people aged over 45 from April 1, 2021. The government then decided to expand its vaccination drive by allowing everyone aged above 18 to be vaccinated from May 1, 2021.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported only one new COVID-19 case pushing the tally in the union territory to 7,596, a health official said on Saturday. The single COVID-19 case was detected during local contact tracing, the official said.
