Cyclone Vardah: 6 NDRF teams deployed in Andhra, 8 in TN & Puducherry, says DIG
New Delhi: There are six teams in Andhra Pradesh and eight teams in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry of NDRF, said its DIG on Monday.
Both the states will face landfall of the Cyclone Vardah by Monday afternoon.
One of the four NDRF teams has been deployed in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh which will be hit by the cyclone.
"Four teams have been deployed in Nellore. We are fully equipped and prepared", said Pawan Kumar, Sub Inspector, NDRF, reported ANI.
"There will be heavy rains during day time. Wind speed is likely to be high but as the day progress it may reduce", said SP Selvan DIG
Courtesy-ANI, Twitter Meanwhile, the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) is all set to carry out relief operations, as cyclone ‘Vardah’ is likely to make landfall near Chennai on Monday, the Indian Navy said on Sunday. “In preparation for the relief efforts of very severe cyclone Vardah, the Eastern Naval Command has assumed a high degree of readiness to render necessary assistance,” said an Indian Navy statement here. The India Meteorological Department has hoisted Distant Warning Signal Number Two (DW-II) at Paradeep and Gopalpur ports. Under the influence of Vardah, rainfall ranging up to 19 cm is expected along the coastal districts from Visakhapatnam to SPS Nellore and also Chittoor and Kadapa. Nellore district alone may receive 15 cm of rain onMonday, the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said. On Friday, the forces evacuated over 2,300 tourists, including a dozen foreigners, by air and sea from Andaman & Nicobar islands, which was hit by the cyclone.
