Cyclone Biparjoy: Small Bridge In Gujarat Washed Away Due To Strong Winds, Rainfall. WATCH

Cyclone Biparjoy: No injuries or casualties were reported.

While India is witnessing one of the severe cyclonic storm, a small bridge got washed away near Gujarat's Bhavanipar village of Bhuj in view of the strong winds and rainfall influenced by Cyclone Biparjoy, news agency ANI reported.

However, no casualities were reported.

After making landfall in Gujarat's coastal districts on Thursday night, Cyclone Biparjoy's intensity decreased from a very strong cyclonic storm to a severe cyclonic storm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“Cyclone Biporjoy moved northeastwards and crossed the Saurashtra-Kutch adjoining Pakistan coast close to the Jakhau port, Gujarat. The cyclone has now moved from sea to land and is centred towards Sauarashtra-Kutch. The intensity of the cyclone has reduced to 105-115 kmph. The category has changed from very severe cyclonic storm (VSCS) to severe cyclonic storm (SCS). There may be heavy rains in Rajasthan on June 16," IMD Director Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said.

Despite no fatalities being reported, Cyclone Biparjoy, which struck Gujarat's area of Kutch-Saurashtra, has left a path of destruction after damaging 5,120 electrical poles and knocking out power in 4,600 villages.

3,580 communities now have power, but more than 1,000 still do not, according to government authorities on Friday.

They said that at least 23 people were hurt as a result of the storm, which also caused several residences to sustain damage and uproot over 600 trees and halt traffic on three state highways owing to damage and tree felling.

According to authorities, Biparjoy, which is Bengali for "calamity," unleashed damaging winds up to 140 kph, relentless rain, toppled trees and electrical poles, and allowed saltwater to infiltrate low-lying settlements.

Since the storm began making landfall at Jakhau Port at 6.30 pm on Thursday, and the process continued till 2.30 am, heavy rains have pounded the whole Kutch area, according to them.

"No human death has been reported so far due to cyclone Biparjoy. It is the biggest achievement for the state. This was possible because of our collective efforts," state Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey told reporters in Gandhinagar.

Before the hurricane made landfall, more than one lakh people had been relocated, he claimed.

When questioned about a father and son goat-rearing team who perished on Thursday while attempting to rescue their goats trapped in a flooded ravine in the Bhavnagar district, Pandey said that since the region was unaffected by the storm, their deaths were not considered to be cyclone-related.
