Covid Crisis: Rahul Gandhi Escalates Attack On PM Modi, Explains Reason Behind ‘Movid’ Jibe

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi earlier went all ballistic on Prime Minister Modi as he addressed a virtual press conference over the present Covid-19 situation in the country.

New Delhi: Reiterating his assertion that Covid is a “Modi Made Disaster”, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday yet again held Prime Minister Narendra Modi responsible for the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the country and highlighted the huge gatherings held during poll rallies in the recently held West Bengal Assembly elections to justify his point.

“We named it Movid because if (Prime Minister) Modi would have taken action then it would have been only Covid. But the Prime Minister made room for Covid with his actions. The Prime Minister made room for corona by asking the people to beat ‘thalis’ and organizing gatherings in West Bengal. (Prime Minister) Modi helped corona. So, I called Covid as Movid,” he told ABP News in an exclusive conversation.

Calling Prime Minister Modi an “event manager”, Gandhi said the former “cannot deal with more than one event at a time”.

“Anything happens, he will organise an event and deal only with that. We cannot do with an event manager in such times. We need effective and speedy administration,” he added.

Expressing concern over “only three percent” of the Indian population being vaccinated so far, the Congress leader called for an appropriate vaccination strategy on part of the Centre while emphasizing that lockdowns, social distancing, and masks are temporary solutions to tackle Covid-19.

“I directly told the PM that if India does not sort out its vaccination strategy, there will be multiple waves since the virus adapts. The Prime Minister is the head of the country. He is responsible for its well-being. The buck stops with the Prime Minister. But the Prime Minister lives in a bubble... no one talks to him because of the way he handles things. So, in effect, the ship is moving without a clue,” he said.

Alleging Prime Minister Modi is “trying to repair his image but his image is gone”, Gandhi said it is time the former “stands up and leads the nation”.

“These are the times where he has to show his leadership, his courage, his strength. The Prime Minister must stand up and deliver... The time has come to show what a good leader you are. So, please deliver,” he added.
