Covid Cases In India: Delhi Logs Single-Day Jump Of 238 Patients, Sees Marginal Dip In Positivity

Delhi on Sunday recorded a jump of 238 fresh Covid cases over Saturday as 1,634 people were diagnosed with the infection. The positivity rate was at 29.68%.

Delhi on Sunday evening reported 1,634 fresh Covid cases over the last 24 hours. The positivity rate was at 29.68%. This was a jump of 238 cases over the previous single-day log of Covid cases. Among the three reported deaths, one was due to Covid-19. Another death was reported. However, the primary cause was not Covid, the health department's evening bulletin said. The case sheet of another death was awaited.

Delhi on Saturday evening registered 1,396 Covid-19 cases and five deaths, with a positivity rate of 31.9%. This was the highest in 15 months. Covid-19 was the primary cause for one death, while it was incidental for the other four, according to the health bulletin.

Medical experts have suggested that the Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 could be driving the increase in cases in the city. However, they have also emphasized that people need not panic and should adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour while receiving booster shots. On Thursday, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj announced that XBB.1.16 is not causing severe infections among children.

On April 12, the national capital's daily Covid-19 tally exceeded 1,000 for the first time in over seven months, with 1,149 cases and a positivity rate of 23.8%, resulting in one fatality. On April 13, the city reported 1,527 cases with a positivity rate of 27.77% and two deaths.
