Covid-19 Update: India recorded 702 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, according to Union Health Ministry data. As per official data, six deaths have been reported in the country in the last 24 hours - two in Maharashtra, and one each in Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, and West Bengal. With the latest addition, the total active caseload now stands at 4,097
According to the ministry's data updated at 8 am, six new fatalities -- two from Maharashtra and one each from Karanataka, Kerala, West Bengal, and Delhi -- were reported in a span of 24 hours. The number of cases reported daily had dropped to double-digits by December 5, but the cases have again gone up after emergence of a new variant and cold weather conditions.
The number of people who recuperated from the infection stands at over 4.4 crore with a national recovery rate of 98.81 per cent, according to the ministry's website. The website further stated that 220.67 crore doses of Covid vaccines have so far been administered in the country.
On Wednesday, Delhi reported its first case of sub-variant JN.1, news agency PTI quoted health officials as saying. Amid the surge in number of Covid infections and JN.1 sub-variant cases, health officials have urged the people not to panic as 92 per cent of those infected are opting for home-based treatment and are showing mild symptoms.
There is also no increase in hospitalisation rates and Covid is an incidental finding in the patients admitted due to other medical conditions, officials said as reported by PTI.
The total death toll due to COVID-19 cases in India has risen to 5,33,346, reflecting an increase of six deaths in the last 24 hours.
India recorded 529 fresh Covid-19 cases in a single day, while the country's active infection count stood at 4,093, the health ministry said on Wednesday.
