Coronavirus: India Records Highest-Ever Single Day Fatalities With Over 2K Deaths In 24 Hours, Overall Death Toll Nears 12K

India records the highest number of fatalities in 24 hours with 2,003 deaths. The recovery rate is still high and surpasses the number of active cases.

New Delhi: India witnessed a surge of around 11,000 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 3.54 lakh according to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data. With a total of 343,091 cases of COVID-19 cases, India is the fourth worst affected country in the world and stands after Russia with 544,725 total cases.Also Read: US Closely Monitoring India-China Border Issue, Offers Condolences To Families Of Martyred Indian Soldiers According to the ministry, there were 10,974 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. This is the sixth consecutive day that the country is seeing a surge of over 10,000 cases. India also witnessed the highest number of fatalities in the last 24 hours with 2,003 deaths. So far, the total number of COVID-19 deaths is 11903. But on the other hand, India’s recovery rate is high and surpasses that of the number of active cases. The total number of people recovered is 186934 whereas the active cases are 155227. The government has earlier announced that the recovery rate in India has become more than 50 percent. Among the worst affected states, Maharashtra still leads with a total of 113445 cases out of which 50057 active cases. The state also recorded 2701 fresh cases of Covid-19. There has been a total of 5537 fatalities with 1,409 deaths in the last 24 hours. Tamil Nadu follows with a total of 48019 cases and 20709 active cases. Delhi now stands at the third place with a total of 44688. States with more than 10,000 cases include Gujarat with 24,576 cases and 1,533 deaths, Uttar Pradesh (14,091), Rajasthan (13,216), Madhya Pradesh (11,083) and West Bengal (11,909). Globally the total confirmed cases of coronavirus have reached 8,173,940 and there have been 4,43,685 fatalities dues to the coronavirus. Leading the list of worst affected countries if the United States with 2,137,731 cases. Brazil (923,189) and Russia(544,725) take the second and third positions respectively.
