Coronavirus Outbreak: Shaheen Bagh Identified As Covid-19 Hotspot As Delhi Gets 60 Red Zones

The Shaheen Bagh area which became the biggest talking point amid Anti-CAA & NRC protests, has been added in the list of Coronavirus hotspots.

New Delhi: As the coronavirus cases continue to rise, the Delhi government on Thursday added three new containment zones in its list. With this development, the national capital now has 60 red zones. The new containment zones are in three districts - one each in South, Shahdara and South-East. As informed by the Delhi Government: Gali No. 3, 4 and 5 in East Ram Nagar, Shahdara, and House No. 50 in Hauz Rani - from Mother Dairy to Raja Ram Mohan School - in South District have been turned into red zones. The Shaheen Bagh area which became the biggest talking point amid Anti-CAA & NRC protests, has also been added to the list.  In South-East Delhi, Gali No. 6, A Block, Abul Fazal Enclave, in Shaheen Bagh has been turned into a containment zone. Earlier on Wednesday evening, the administration had sealed a part of Safdarjung Enclave (from B-4/200 to B-4/206). As of now, the highest number of containment zones are in the South-East District (15), followed by the East District (9). After an area is declared as a containment zone, the Delhi government starts its 'Operation SHIELD' there.  The abbreviation stands for Sealing, Home Quarantine, Isolation and Tracking, Essential Supply, Local Sanitisation and Door-To-Door Checking. These are the practices are that carried out to contain the spread of coronavirus in the area. In this operation, authorities completely shut the movement of common people and ensure that essential supplies reach residents. The area and the houses in it are sanitised properly. According to the Delhi government, Operation SHIELD initially helped in stopping the transmission of coronavirus in Dilshad Garden and Old Seemapuri as no new cases have been reported in these areas. Then as they claim, it has lead to no new cases in the containment zones in Vasundhara Enclave, Mayur Vihar and Khichripur. Delhi has reported 1,578 positive cases while 32 people have succumbed to the dreaded virus so far, as per the data issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
