Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Thursday, May 20: Despite a decline in the number of Covid-19 cases, hospitals have started reporting an increase in cases of mucormycosis, or black fungus, resulting in a shortage of antifungal medicines used to treat the infection.
Hospitals said at least 185 patients have contracted the fungal infection after being infected with Covid-19, and are admitted to seven Delhi hospitals.
The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday said vaccination can now be deferred by three months after clinical recovery from the illness. Accepting recommendations from the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (NEGVAC), the government further said if an individual is infected with coronavirus after the first dose, the second dose should be also deferred by three months after recovering from the infection.
There will be no requirement for screening of vaccine recipients by a Rapid Antigen Test kit prior to vaccination against COVID-19, it further said.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday approved a home-based testing kit to detect Coronavirus infection. As per reports, ICMR has issued an advisory for home testing of Coronavirus where a person will now be able to test himself or herself without requiring any medical professional.
Making the announcement, the council said that it has approved a home-testing kit called CoviSelf for suspects to check if they have Coronavirus infection while being at home.
