Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Tuesday, June 15, 2021: Even though India reported 62,224 new coronavirus infections in last 24 hours, taking country's total tally to 2,96,33,105, recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for the 34th consecutive day. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 2,83,88,100, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.28 per cent.

Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Tuesday, June 16, 2021: The second wave of coronavirus in the country has now become mild i.e. the infection rate has come down considerably as compared to earlier. However, daily deaths due to Covid still remain a matter of concern. At the same time, due to the low infection rate, many states including Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh have started easing the Covid-19 restrictions.
In the last 24 hours, more than 60 thousand Covid-19 cases were registered in the country, while 2726 patients have succumbed to the deadly infection. At the same time, the Haj Committee of India has canceled all the applications for the Haj pilgrimage of 2021 in view of the situation of Coronavirus epidemic.
The Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday that more than 26 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the country so far. The ministry said that on Tuesday, 13 lakh 13 thousand 438 people in the age group of 18-44 years were given the first dose of the vaccine while 54,375 people were given the second dose. Four crore 49 lakh 87 thousand four people in the age group of 18-44 years have taken the first dose of vaccine and eight lakh 95 thousand 517 people have taken the second dose since the beginning of the third phase of Covid vaccination in the country.
The highly transmissible Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 has mutated further to form the Delta plus’ or AY.1′ variant but there is no immediate cause for concern in India as its incidence in the country is still low, scientists here said.

"Delta Plus' Variant May Trigger Third Covid Wave In Maharashtra
The highly virulent "Delta plus" variant of the novel coronavirus could stoke a third wave in Maharashtra, according to a presentation made at a meeting attended by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday.
The number of active patients could reach up to eight lakh, while 10 per cent out of them could be children, said the presentation made by the state health department, as per an official release.

Maharashtra Reports 10,107 New Covid Cases, 237 Deaths
Maharashtra on Wednesday reported as many as 10,107 fresh Covid-19 cases, 10,567 discharges and 237 deaths in the last 24 hours. With this, state's active cases stands at 1,36,661 while overall tally moves to 59,34,880.
