Corona Effect: Platform Ticket Price Now Raised To Rs 50 At Key Stations Of Mumbai Region
A platform ticket now costs Rs. 50 at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Dadar and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) stations in Mumba as well as neighbouring Thane, Kalyan Panvel and Bhiwandi Road stations instead of the previous rate of Rs. 10, PTI reported Central Railways’ Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Shivaji Sutar as saying.
Mumbai: With the country’s financial capital witnessing a surge in coronavirus cases amid lockdown and curbs, the Indian Railways’ Central Railway Zone has increased the price of platform tickets at some key stations in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) in an attempt to avoid over-crowding.
A platform ticket now costs Rs. 50 at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Dadar and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) stations in Mumba as well as neighbouring Thane, Kalyan Panvel and Bhiwandi Road stations instead of the previous rate of Rs. 10, PTI reported Central Railways’ Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Shivaji Sutar as saying.
The Central Railways’ official further said the decision has been taken to “prevent over-crowding at these stations during the summer travel rush”.
The new rate to be applicable from February 24 will remain effective till June 15.
The decision to increase the price for platform tickets come just days after Maharashtra reported 8,293 new coronavirus cases.
Over 50,000 people have so far died due to the coronavirus pandemic in Maharashtra even as the country’s Covid-19 tally surpassed 1.12 crore with 12,286 new infections on Tuesday.
