India Records 9,765 Covid Cases & 477 Deaths In Last 24 Hrs, Active Cases Remain Below 1 Lakh

New Delhi: India has been successful to maintain the daily Covid surge below 10,000 for another day as the country reported 9,765 new cases in the last 24 hours. 477 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours and the country witnessed 8,548 recoveries in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministery.
The country's active caseload currently stands at 99,763. The active cases account for less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.29%, and are the lowest since March 2020.
The recovery rate of the country is currently at 98.35%.
Omicron scare in India
While the Omicron variant of Covid 19 continues to raise alarm in the country, six people who flew into Delhi from 'at-risk countries, including the UK and the Netherlands, on Wednesday have been admitted to the Lok Nayak Hospital after four of them tested positive for COVID-19 and two showed symptoms, reported PTI.
Their samples have been sent to the National Centre for Disease Control for genome sequencing to ascertain if they have the new variant, Omicron
All six people have been admitted to the LNJP Hospital, where a dedicated ward has been set up for isolating and treating such patients, the officials added.
"Four flights originating from Amsterdam and London and carrying 1,013 passengers landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport between 12 night and 6 am. Of these passengers, four have tested positive," a source said.
Three patients travelled on a flight from Amsterdam that carried 372 people. The fourth patient travelled with 176 others on a flight from London. All are Indian nationals, he added.
An official at the LNJP Hospital said to PTI that two more travellers who tested negative but have Covid-like symptoms have been brought to the hospital.
A total of six patients are in the hospital at present, he said.
