Congress Suspends Captain Amarinder Singh's Wife And Patiala MP Preneet Kaur From Party

Congress MP (Lok Sabha) from Patiala Preneet Kaur, wife of former Punjab CM Capt. Amarinder Singh has been suspended from the Party with immediate effect.

Congress on Friday suspended MP Preneet Kaur, wife of former Punjab CM Capt. Amarinder Singh from the Party with immediate effect, news agency ANI reported.

The decision has been taken by the Disciplinary Action Committee of Congress after PCC Congress Chief filed the complaint against Patiala MP Preneet Kaur for allegedly “indulging in anti-party activities to help Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).”

The committee stated in a notice to Preneet Kaur that they had received a complaint from Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.

It further stated that Warring's stance on Preneet Kaur, the wife of former Congress politician and Punjab Chief Minister Amrinder Singh, was supported by other party members. Taking the complaint into account, Kaur was fired this afternoon, effective immediately.

Kaur has been given three days to demonstrate why she should not be expelled.

Speaking about the suspension, Congress DAC panel member Tariq Anwar stated: "The party was getting regular complaints about Preneet Kaur indulging in anti-party activities & party's state unit was demanding disciplinary action against her. The party's Disciplinary Committee decided to suspend her. Showcause notice served to her."

Earlier last year, state Congress officials, including numerous former ministers, MLAs, and ex-MLAs, had passed a "resolution" demanding the Congress leadership to eject her from the party. They expressed their feelings to the meeting's chairperson, All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and the then Punjab affairs in-charge Harish Chaudhary.

Preneet Singh, the wife of former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, had turned against the party when her husband quit the Congress to start his own political party, the Punjab Lok Congress (PLC), after being ousted as Chief Minister in September last year.

Capt ran in the 2022 assembly elections in coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while Preneet, who originally kept a low profile, campaigned for BJP-PLC candidates.
