WATCH | Verbal Spat Breaks Out Between Cong's Ravneet Singh Bittu & SAD's Harsimrat Kaur Badal Over Farm Laws

New Delhi: A heated argument broke out between two MPs from Punjab, Congress' Ravneet Singh Bittu and Akali Dal's Harsimrat Kaur Badal over the three farm laws amid the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Parliament.

Congress' Ravneet Singh accused Akali Dal's Harsimrat Kaur Badal of indulging in drama after the bill was passed in the Union Cabinet while she was still minister. He added, that her support towards the farmers was fake.

The argument took place near the Parliament building where SAD members were protesting against the new farm laws while Bittu was speaking to reporters.

Bittu alleged that Badal resigned from the Cabinet after getting the laws enacted and repeatedly accused her of doing drama over the news laws.

"The bill was passed by the Union Cabinet when she was still the minister. You resigned later. They (Akali Dal) continue to indulge in drama," Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu told reporters, hitting out at Harsimrat Kaur Badal who had resigned last year as the Union Minister to protest the government's new farm laws.

To this, Harsimrat Kaur Badal replied, "Please ask them... Where was Rahul Gandhi when all that was happening? This party (the Congress) helped in the passage of bills by staging a walkout. They have to stop lying."

The Akali Dal has been protesting outside parliament over the controversial laws amid the monsoon session.

Earlier, on Saturday, Badal along with members of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) met President Ram Nath Kovind to ask the Centre to discuss the issue of farm laws and Pegasus in the Parliament.

The farmers have been protesting at the borders of Delhi since November 26 last year against the newly enacted farm laws -- Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance, and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

The opposition parties have been forcing adjournments in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha over several issues including the new farm laws and the Pegasus spyware scandal since the beginning of the session.
