Sanjay Nirupam likens Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala to a dog
NEW DELHI: In a controversial statement, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Saturday likened Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala to a "dog" for inviting the BJP to form government in the state despite lacking the required numbers.
"..from now onwards every Indian would name his dog "Vajubhai Vala" because none can be more loyal than him," Nirupam said.
Nirupam's statement came hours after, the 3-day old B S Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka collapsed on Saturday, with the chief minister announcing his decision to resign without facing a trust vote. The Supreme Court had on Friday ordered a floor test in the Karnataka Assembly at 4 PM on Saturday, drastically slashing the 15-day window given by Governor Vajubhai Vala to BJP Chief Minister Yeddyurappa to prove his majority. The BJP has emerged as the single largest party in the southern state winning 104 seats, but is short of a simple majority. On the other hand, the Congress and JD(S), which have already announced post-poll tie-up, have won 78 and 37 seats respectively and claimed before Vala to have numbers to form government in the state.Controversial statement by Mumbai Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, compares Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala with a dog. https://t.co/pr6jeKx5AE
