Cong Did Not Work On Infra At Border Areas: Union Minister Rijiju As Oppn Attacks Govt On India-China Clash

Rijiju said that it was Cong who did not work on infrastructure at border areas. Responding to the protest by Congress and opposition leaders, he said that Cong is raising a sensitive issue.

New Delhi: Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday attacked the Congress party and said that it was Congress who did not work on infrastructure at border areas, as reported by the news agency ANI. Responding to the protest by Congress and opposition leaders demanding discussion on the India-China faceoff at Tawang, Rijiju said that Congress is raising a sensitive issue which is not good.

He also said that in 2005 when Bharatiya Janata Party was in opposition and raised the China border issue the then leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee and then PM Manmohan Singh said that the issue should be dealt with internally as the issue is sensitive.

“In 2005, when we were in opposition & raised the China border issue, the then leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee & then PM Manmohan Singh said that instead of discussing it in Parliament, we should deal with it internally as the issue is sensitive,” Rijiju said as quoted by ANI.

“After that, we didn't raise the issue. Congress is forgetting that and is raising a sensitive issue which isn't good. It was congress who didn't work on infrastructure at border areas,” he further said.

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other Opposition leaders protest in front of the Gandhi statue inside the Parliament premises on Wednesday, as reported by the news agency ANI. The leaders of the opposition are demanding a discussion on the India and China faceoff at Tawang.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has invited like-minded opposition leaders to join the protest in front of the Gandhi statue at 10:15 am, PTI reported citing sources. Around 12 parties are expected to participate in the protest, PTI reported. Opposition parties have been demanding a discussion on the India-China border tensions and the latest Chinese transgressions since the Winter Session started on December 7.
