UP CM Yogi Adityanath Tries To Win Over Migrants, Assures Jobs Who Returned To State
The CM informed that of the total 1,000 shramik trains operated for migrants, 600 of them have been run by Uttar Pradesh in which workers from states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Kerala, Karnataka and Telangana returned back to the state.
Noida, May 18: In an attempt to woo back the migrants in his state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Monday that all those who have returned during the lockdown will be provided work.
In an interview with a news channel, India TV, the CM informed that of the total 1,000 shramik trains operated in the country for migrants 600 of them have been run by Uttar Pradesh in which workers from states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Kerala, Karnataka and Telangana returned back to the state.
Earlier in May, the CM during E-Shikhar Sammelan at ABP News said the state has chalked out initiatives to provide employment to 1.5 million people so far. In the first phase, six lakh laborers have returned. After the workers come back, they will be given employment according to their skills.
While hitting back at the Congress over the migrant issue, Yogi Adityanath pointed out at Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who has mentioned about providing 1,000 buses for migrants. “I have been asking the Congress party for the list of these buses since the past three days but haven't received any list so far,” he said.
The CM further stressed that said that it’s the time to indulge in politics in such a crises situation but everyone should work together to fight this outbreak.
UP has also restricted the entry of people who are reaching the state by walking from different states amid lockdown. From now on, nobody will be allowed to enter the state on-foot, via railway tracks, on two-wheelers or in trucks.
The decision came in the wake of two major accidents in UP's Auraiya which left 24 migrant workers dead.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath last week announced that the number of people being employed under MGNREGA will double and reach the 50 lakh mark in Uttar Pradesh by the end of this month.
"Uttar Pradesh is one of the leaders in giving employment under MGNREGA. Till yesterday we were giving employment to approximately 25 lakh persons daily through the scheme. According to my estimate by the end of this month, we will take this number to 50 lakh," Adityanath had said.
The UP CM had earlier revealed that approximately 12 lakh workers have returned to the state and the state government is expecting about a total of 25 lakh migrant workers to return from across the country.
