'Jumla Bells, Jumla Bells, Jumlas All The Way': In Christmas Mood, Congress Takes Cheeky Dig At BJP

Taking a cheeky dig at the saffron party, Congress posted caricatures of PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of Textiles and Women & Child Development Smriti Irani.

New Delhi: Looks like Christmas celebrations in the Congress party is at full swing! The party, currently led by Sonia Gandhi, on Wednesday took a cheeky dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi in order to extended its Christmas greetings to them. Congress party took to Twitter and sang the "Jingle Bell" song for the BJP in its own naughty version on the occasion of Christmas. Taking a cheeky dig at the saffron party, Congress posted caricatures of PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of Textiles and Women & Child Development Smriti Irani. "Jumla bells, jumla bells, jumlas all the way," the Congress tweeted this afternoon, using cartoons of top brass BJP leaders to pasquinade its arch-rival. ('Jumla' means misleading rhetoric). What next was followed by "Oh what fun it is to see what an honest govt might say." On of the cartoons had Amit Shah with a speech bubble that reads - All I want for Christmas is for Modi to do what I say. The largely appears to be a dig at the ongoing controversy over PM Modi's recent speech in the national capital over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Both PM Modi and Shah have given opposite statement of the issue in the recent past. While Amit Shah, even in the Parliament, has batted for a nationwide NRC implementation, PM Modi on the other hand has claimed that no discussion over the same has been made over the same since BJP came into power in 2014. However, in a recent interview with news agency ANI, Amit Shah agreed with PM Modi's comments -- made at a Delhi rally this weekend -- that no discussions had taken place on a pan-India NRC. Other cartoon is of FM Sitharaman again with a speech bubble that reads - All I want for Christmas is some help on the Budget please. This was in reference to the upcoming Budget session scheduled to be presented in Parliament in February 2020. On the occasion of Christmas and new year ahead, Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi sent out greetings to all the office bearers and MPs of the party. The greeting card has the photo of a dreamcatcher stuck on a stump by the seaside and is personally signed by him. Even President Ram Nath Kovind and PM Modi were among the leaders who greeted the nation on Wednesday on Christmas. The President tweeted: "Merry Christmas to all fellow citizens and especially to our Christian brothers and sisters in India and abroad. This is a day to renew our commitment to values of compassion, love, fraternity. May Jesus Christ bless us all with happiness and joy." On the eve of Christmas, Kovind in his message to the nation had said that we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, whose life has been an inspiration to the humanity to follow the message of love, compassion and fraternity. "Today, when the world finds itself tormented by strife, hatred and violence, his words and deeds have the power to heal wounds and show the way out. Let us today reaffirm our resolve to walk on the path he has shown and create a kinder and more egalitarian society," Kovind said.
