Chintan Shivir: Unanimity In Congress On ‘One Family, One Ticket’ Proposal
“They would be taken up formally in the three-day shivir and introduced in the resolution,” said Gogoi, according to the news agency.
New Delhi: As the Congress’ three-day brainstorming session ‘Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir’ began in Rajasthan’s Udaipur city on Friday, the grand old party has made some important decisions, including the one family, one ticket proposal, as it eyes to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said there have been many discussions in the run-up to ‘Chintan Shivir’, adding some subjects have formed a consensus and would be taken up formally, ANI reported.
“They would be taken up formally in the three-day shivir and introduced in the resolution,” said Gogoi, according to the news agency.
“One family-one ticket is something all of us feel strongly about,” added the Congress leader.
Congress general secretary Ajay Maken too echoed similar sentiments on the issue.
Maken said “there is almost complete unanimity among the panel members on the proposal to ensure that party leaders don't give tickets to their kin or relatives without any work in the party, adding “at least five years of prior work in the party will be required”.
The Congress has also decided that no person will hold any post beyond five years in the party.
“Any person who is holding a post for five years should have to step down and there should be a cooling period of at least three years for that person to come back on the same post,” said Maken, ANI reported.
“For more than five years, a person should not be on the same post,” he added.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi will address the ‘Chintan Shivir’ this afternoon and former party chief Rahul Gandhi will deliver his speech on the third day.
